Finishing the second vehicle stripdown, carting the relics to the tip

The biggest job here was getting the tub off, and pulling any bits off the tub which might come in handy.

After that, everything was loaded onto the trailer, and went off to the tip. Why not take it to a scrap merchant? Because aluminium pays 50c per kilo, provided all steel has been removed. If there is any steel at all left, it’s irony aluminium, which pays 15c per kilo. It just isn’t worth the effort. Blue Mountains Council are welcome to the scrap, and they recycle it in bulk.

The final job was to hose the dried mud out of the chassis. It’s not hard to see why Land Rovers rust – I must have got 20 kilos of dirt out of the rear of the chassis under the tub and around the rear cross-member.

Despite the mud, the chassis is in pretty good condition, so I’ll store it away under a tarp for later consideration.
